Tendon Disorders

Tendon Disorder Specialist

Each foot contains over 30 tendons that control the motion of the foot, ankle and toes, and any of these can give a patient problems. Tendon issues can stem from injuries, abnormal function and even inherited disorders. Patients with tendon problems can complain of a variety of things, from weakness to pain or changes in the position of the affected bones.

The treatment for tendon problems really depends on which tendon is involved and the reason that the tendon is causing issues. Common treatments include keeping the area from moving to allow healing, anti-inflammatories to reduce pain and swelling and sometimes even surgery to repair the tendon or to fix the underlying issue that is causing the problem. As with all foot and ankle problems, the treatment should be geared at fixing the problem to the point that someone can safely return to the activities that they desire to do.
